About XIAOMI

Xiaomi Corporation, often simply referred to as Xiaomi, is a Chinese multinational electronics company headquartered in Beijing. Founded in April 2010 by Lei Jun and six associates, Xiaomi has rapidly grown into a global technology powerhouse, renowned for its innovative consumer electronics, software, and smart hardware. The company's vision is to "make friends with users and be the coolest company in the users' hearts," consistently delivering high-quality products at honest prices to make innovative technology accessible to everyone.

In the electric scooter market, Xiaomi has established itself as a leading brand, offering a range of popular models known for their sleek design, portability, and smart features. While Xiaomi designs and sells these scooters, manufacturing often involves strategic partnerships, notably with Ninebot (part of the Segway-Ninebot group), which produces many of Xiaomi's electric scooter models. This collaboration allows Xiaomi to leverage specialized manufacturing expertise while maintaining its brand identity and quality standards.

Xiaomi's electric scooters are integrated into its broader AIoT (AI + IoT) ecosystem, connecting with the Xiaomi Home app for smart management, firmware updates, and real-time vehicle status monitoring. The brand's commitment to innovation extends to safety, with models like the Electric Scooter 4 Pro being the first globally to achieve UL's IoT Security Rating Gold Level certification. Despite facing common challenges like tire flats and occasional software glitches, Xiaomi continues to be a dominant force in urban mobility, offering reliable and feature-rich electric scooters that appeal to a wide global audience.

Warranty & Known Issues

Warranty Terms

Xiaomi offers a limited product warranty, typically 1-2 years for the main unit and 6 months for accessories like chargers and data cables, subject to local laws. The warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. It does not cover damage from acts of nature, negligence, commercial use, alterations, use with non-Xiaomi products, accidents, misuse, improper voltage, unauthorized service, or data loss. Remedies include repair, replacement, or refund. Proof of purchase is required for warranty service.

Known Issues

Common issues reported by users include error codes (e.g., Error 14 for throttle, Error 15 for brakes), flat tires, battery degradation over time, and problems with the folding mechanism. Some users also report a lack of suspension leading to uncomfortable rides on rough terrain and increased likelihood of flats. Xiaomi scooters are generally not waterproof, and water damage is a known concern.

Recall History

In 2019, Xiaomi issued a voluntary recall for certain units of its Mi Electric Scooter (M365 model). The recall was due to a safety issue where a screw in the folding apparatus could come loose, potentially causing the steering column to detach from the main body during use. This affected over 10,000 units, primarily in the UK and other European and Asian countries.
