Warranty Terms
For electric scooters purchased on or after May 18, 2024, HONEY WHALE offers a 3-year warranty. Electric bikes purchased after the same date come with a 1-year warranty. The motor and battery are covered for 12 months or up to 2,000km, whichever comes first. Other parts are covered for 3 years, though for the 2nd and 3rd years, only free replacement parts are provided, with customers responsible for labor fees and round-trip shipping costs.
The warranty covers manufacturing or material defects, battery failure (not holding charge under normal usage), motor failure or major performance loss, controller/display/sensor failure, and structural issues like broken welds. Exclusions include misuse, physical damage, water ingress, and consumable items such as tires.
To claim warranty, proof of purchase, a description of the issue, and supporting photos or videos are required. Within the first 12 months, HONEY WHALE may cover return and repair shipping costs if the fault is not due to misuse, physical damage, or water ingress, the product is within its first year of warranty, the customer is located outside Auckland and Christchurch, and the original purchase included shipping delivery (not in-store pickup). An extended warranty option is also available.
Known Issues
Users have reported several issues with HONEY WHALE scooters. Some models, like the E9 Pro, may overheat and stop working on steep hills. Stability at higher speeds, particularly downhill, can be a concern due to smaller tires. The 'Eco mode' has been described as too fast, lacking a slower option suitable for beginners or crowded areas. The weight of some models, such as the T4A (24kg), can make them less portable and unsuitable for public transport.
Battery longevity has been a point of concern, with some users reporting a lifespan of 1 to 2 years and costly replacements. Stiff shock absorbers and frequent flat tires have also been mentioned by users. Additionally, some users have experienced issues with the companion app's connectivity.
