Warranty Terms
NIU offers a 2-year warranty on the main body components of its electric kick scooters, including the battery, battery charger, frame, motor, controller, dashboard, front fork, and main harness. This warranty period typically starts from the purchase date or delivery date for e-commerce orders. Shorter warranty periods apply to accessories (6 months) and consumable parts (3 months). The warranty covers manufacturer defects in materials or workmanship. Exclusions include damage from abuse, misuse, neglect (e.g., fire, collision, water damage), failure to follow maintenance schedules, use of non-NIU parts, repairs by unauthorized personnel, normal wear and tear (e.g., brake pads, tires, bulbs), and cosmetic damage due to aging. Vehicle inspection by an authorized dealer within 500 miles of purchase may be required to maintain warranty validity.
Known Issues
Common issues reported by users include problems with brakes (failing, noise), battery not charging or losing power, dashboard not lighting up or displaying error codes (e.g., Error 02 for brake fault, Error 03 for accelerator fault), scooter not turning on due to disconnected cables or faulty power buttons, and software glitches. Some users have also reported excessive handlebar vibrations.
Recall History
In 2022, NIU issued a recall in the United States for certain 2022 MQiGT EVO electric scooters. The recall was due to a firmware issue that could cause the motor to lose power and excessive handlebar vibrations. The fix for this issue was a software update. While the software update resolved the problem in Europe without a formal recall, US laws required an official recall.
